Прогрессивный транс — подстиль транса. Название жанра объясняется тем, что в музыкальных композициях, принадлежащих к данному жанру, присутствуют так называемые прогрессии, то есть множество спецэффектов, комплексно проработанные ударные, которые вместе с постоянно развивающейся мелодией создают ощущение того, что трек развивается и прогрессирует, а не повторяется, как во многих других подстилях транса. Характерная скорость Прогрессив Транса - 128—140 ударов в минуту, что позволяет данному стилю гармонично сочетаться с Прогрессив Хаусом. Прародителем Progressive trance является техно, характеризующееся прямым битом (один удар в такт) и несложной повторяющейся бас-линией. Первые мотивы Progressive trance появились в экспериментах с частями трэка без ударных инструментов, только c засэмплированными отрывками фраз, мелодиями, которые создают "возвышающие", "вдохновляющие" эмоции. Пример - Dance 2 Trance - "We Came In Peace". Мелодия и звуки производятся с помощью аналоговых синтезаторов, и одним из главных элементов музыки, с помощью которого создается гамма чувств у слушателя - это струнные инстументы (strings).

История Progressive Trance

Прародителем современного Progressive Trance является испанский остров Ибица (Ibiza), который известен своими фестивалями электронной музыки. Годом появления Progressive trance считается 1996-ой год: в этом году увидел свет легендарный трэк ENERGY 52 - "Cafe Del Mar". Яркими представителями Progressive, или Ibiza Trance являются также трэки CHICANE - "Offshore", NALIN & KANE - "Beachball". Progressive Trance c Ибицы производил впечатление моря, теплого ветра, в нем часто использовались звуки волн и т.п.

Сама структура трэка "позаимствована" с популярного в 90-е годы стиля Eurodance (CultureBeat, 2UnLimited и пр.) - куплет-припев-куплет-припев-пауза-2 раза припев. Параллельно этому стилю в европе набирал популярность dream-house: Robert Miles - "Children".

Постепенно продюсеры стали отходить от использования трансовых синтезированных звуков, делая больший акцент на мелодиях, вокале и акустических партиях. В 1998-ом году вышел первый трэк с использованием всех элементов Progressive Trance XXI-ого века - Paul Van Dyke - "For an Angel", который породил волну коммерческого eurotrance, характеризующегося очень легким, почти попсовым звучанием.

К 2000-му году продюсеры вновь стали использовать более тяжелые низкочастотные звуки, характерные для стиля trance. Первые релизы "нового старого транса" - LANGE - "I Believe" и LOST WITNESS - "Happiness Happening".

Сегодня Progressive trance сложно назвать подстилем транса - он вполне самостоятельный стиль со своими законами. Различают несколько подстилей Progressive Trance - Euphoric Progressive Trance (исполнители - Above&Beyond), Anthem Progressive Trance с очень сложными и долгими мелодиями, напоминающими классическую музыку, Tech Trance - с характерными для Techno тяжелыми битами и басами, Classic Trance (исполнители - Markus Schulz), Deep Trance (исполнители - Gabriel&Dresden), Uplifting Trance (исполнители - Mike Koglin, Mark Pledger, Oliver Smith), Hi-NRG Trance (исполнители - Nu-NRG). Допускается частичное смешение подстилей.
